Gutters with Gutter Guards: Do They Have To Be Cleaned?

August 4, 2016

Maintaining a house is a necessity, and sometimes improving a home is what it takes to make it better, easier to maintain. That is the idea behind the invention of gutter guards, which are supposed to prevent all types of debris from getting into a home’s gutter system and causing a clog. It’s a great idea, does it work, and do these need to be cleaned along with the gutters? That is what’s on the mind of property owners – do they still need to clean the gutters?

There are pros and cons of gutter guards, and while these do prevent larger debris such as twigs, branches, plastic, paper, and large leaves from entering the gutters, there are a few negative aspects to them.

Cleaning Gutters with Gutter Guards

Anyone who has owned a home for a while knows that cleaning the gutters is no fun field trip, it is usually a stinky, time-consuming and messy job that no one wants to do. And, it can be dangerous at that because mounting the roof is serious business, as personal injury and physical damage to the roof is a real risk looming over the venture, at all times.

Thankfully, there are professional gutter cleaners who make it their business to help homeowners clean and maintain their gutters and gutter guards. It’s true, gutters with gutter guards need to be cleaned, however, depending on the type of gutter guard, and it can take more time to clean them.

Types of Gutter Guards

There are a few types of gutter guards, these include mesh gutter guards, nylon gutter guards, reverse curve gutter guards, and foam gutter guards that actually sit inside the gutters. Most gutter guards sit on top of the gutter tracks, to prevent leaves from entering, or directing the leave to flow over the gutters while draining the water. While many home improvement experts recommend these, maintaining them is definitely a major chore, if you do it yourself, as the process to remove gutter guards, depending on the type, is time-consuming.

Even with gutter guards, gutters still develop grime build-up and can become clogged with small debris, especially if the gutters haven’t been cleaned in a longtime. So, if you do have gutters with gutter guards, your gutters still need to be cleaned, maybe not as frequently, but they do, and Apex Vacuum and Gutter Cleaning can do ‘it’ for you.
